Sterling Heroes of World War II By Denny Dressman, Editor
Annotated and Edited by Denny Dressman STERLING HEROES of World War II is the culmination of a project begun by Dr. John Elliff in 2000 when he began conducting a series of 36 video recorded interviews with World War II veterans from Sterling and surrounding northeast Colorado.
Most men who served in the once-in-history global war were reluctant to relive their experiences; however Dr. Elliff persuaded them to share their fears and heartaches; to admit at least some of their shenanigans; to share dramatic moments during combat; and to reveal personal feelings about family, faith and the future course of their lives.
Veteran journalist and author Denny Dressman annotated and edited the transcribed interviews, creating compelling chapters based on each veteran’s individual recollections. Each chapter is original and distinctive and collectively they present a wide-ranging picture of military service during wartime as well as glimpses of life in America as a generation of young Americans went off to fight for freedom.
