Tim Weilert
2009 CAL Scholarship Recipient

I am currently a sophomore mechanical engineering student at the Colorado School of Mines (CSM) in Golden. Born and raised in Fort Collins, I am a Colorado native through-and-through. On the right-brained side of things, I enjoy music and writing. I currently work as a manager and writer at CSM's independent student-run newspaper The Oredigger, and I oversee day-to-day operations at the Denver-music-scene blog "Something Like Sound," (http://www.minesblog.com/music). It is my goal to show engineers that there is beauty and relevancy in art.

In his application, Tim wrote: "I write because as a man of science I have a duty to society to think in new and innovative ways. If engineers are unable to write, then innovation falls by the wayside and the core issues of society go unaddressed. I write not to preserve the present, but to press into the future."
